The Seasoned Gardener by Liz Zorab: Review

In The Seasoned Gardener, Liz Zorab takes us through each month of the year, describing her experience of the seasons. She talks about what she is growing and harvesting whilst weaving in the story of her taking over a new smallholding in Wales.

With her characteristic wit and charm, Liz Zorab’s latest book The Seasoned Gardener is a real joy to read. It is packed full of down-to-earth advice and tips, beautiful pictures and inspiration. Liz’s popular YouTube channel is aimed at all ages and abilities. She claims that if she can do it, “anyone can”. Her book reflects this attitude, and whilst her years of experience shine through the pages, she is modest and honest about her triumphs, failures and experiments.

Liz’s last book, Grounded, was a best-seller, and I suspect her new contribution may become one too. I love her conversational and lighthearted style of writing. She is funny, charismatic and self-aware. Liz doesn’t present herself as an expert, though most would consider her to be one whether she likes it or not!

This book would be the perfect book for someone just starting out vegetable gardening or a fellow ‘seasoned gardener’ looking for a gentle and interesting read and a bit of inspiration.

I had the pleasure of interviewing Liz for my podcast, The Seed Pod. She talked about her struggles with her health and how she went from being bedbound to being active and gardening every day. She speaks of gardening as her saviour. It is a truly inspiring story that is well worth a listen. Therefore, if you want something to listen to before your new book arrives, go and have a listen.
