The Seed Collector’s Kit: Get Seeds for Free

The Seed Collectors Kit

Hello fellow gardeners, I’m so excited to share The Seed Collector’s Kit with you all. This project has been a real labour of love, born from my fascination with plants and the sheer joy of saving seeds. There’s something deeply satisfying about closing the loop. Watching a plant grow from a tiny seed, nurturing it as it flourishes, harvesting its produce, and then collecting its seeds to start the whole process again.

I created this seed collecting kit because I wanted to make seed saving simple and accessible and create something truly beautiful. When I first started saving seeds, I found myself scrambling for scraps of paper to store them in. Then I was jotting down notes that would mysteriously disappear by spring. Sound familiar? That’s why I’ve included five beautifully designed seed collection envelopes in the kit. So you can safely store your precious seeds and keep track of what’s what.

The Seed Collector’s Kit

The heart of The Seed Collector’s Kit is the 50 plant cards. Each one stunningly illustrated by the incredibly talented Rachel Pedder-Smith. The cards were chosen to represent a broad spectrum of plants so that you gain the confidence to save seeds from any plant you want. These cards don’t just tell you how to collect seeds — they guide you through the entire journey. You’ll find advice on how to sow, grow, harvest, and save seeds from a whole range of vegetables, herbs, and flowers. From Artichoke to Zinnia.

But I didn’t want the kit to stop there. I’ve also included a 28-page booklet. It’s packed with general seed-saving tips; how to store your seeds properly, how to test for viability, and how to encourage strong germination. There is also information on which varieties to save seeds from and how to ensure your seeds grow true to form. The beauty of seed collecting is that once you understand the basics, you can apply them to almost any plant in your garden. It’s about observation, experimentation, and a little bit of knowledge.

The Joy of Seed Saving

For me, seed collecting is more than just a practical gardening skill. It’s a way of connecting more deeply with the natural world. It’s about creating a garden that’s not just beautiful and productive, but also sustainable. When you save seeds, you’re helping to preserve plant diversity and build resilience into your little patch of earth. Collecting your own seeds helps plants adapt over time to the conditions in your garden. This helps you to grow stronger, healthier plants year on year.

If you’re new to seed collecting, this kit will give you the confidence to get started. And if you’re a seasoned gardener, I hope it will inspire you to expand your seed-saving repertoire and perhaps pass on the habit to others.

Happy seed saving,

Becky
